Applications

Where it pays off first

The biggest gains come where heat, steam or water are needed alongside electricity. Five applications where the technology plays to its strengths.

01 · Oil

Solar steam for enhanced oil recovery (EOR).

Thermal recovery of heavy oil pushes steam into the reservoir. Steam accounts for up to 60% of production cost and today is mostly raised with gas.

The Hassabou collector produces that steam from solar energy. Its steam cost does not depend on fuel prices and sits below gas boilers, cogeneration and conventional solar thermal, even when gas is cheap.

02 · Water

Desalination.

Gulf states draw much of their water from the sea. Thermal plants (MSF, MED) need heat, reverse osmosis (RO) needs electricity. The PV-T collector supplies both from one field.

Membrane-free desalination from our partner EUROSyn produces drinking water without chemicals, with pure brine as a usable by-product.

03 · Hydrogen

Green hydrogen for industry and export.

MENA has sun and land in abundance, fresh water it does not. The PWT process removes that bottleneck because it runs on wastewater, brackish water or seawater.

The hydrogen serves as feedstock for industry and refineries, as fuel for transport and shipping, and as storage for renewable energy. For many countries in the region it becomes an export product.

04 · Agriculture

Food from arid regions.

Greenhouses in hot climates need cooling, often heat at night, and always water. One collector field supplies power for pumps and cooling, heat for heating and drying, and energy for water treatment.

That makes vegetable growing, dairy farming and food drying viable in places that import today.

05 · Infrastructure

Airports, stadiums and resorts.

Large sites have high, steady demand for electricity, cooling and hot water, often around the clock. An integrated supply from PV-T, thermal storage and hydrogen covers it with one system.

Hydrogen can also fuel ground vehicles, buses or backup generators.
